In the first meeting of this Creative Writing course, we students were prompted to compare ourselves to our respective favorite fictional characters. I chose to compare myself to Darth Vader, who has been one of my favorite fictional characters (and definitely my favorite villain) since I first got into the original Star Wars trilogy when I was about eight years old.
Vader is portrayed in the original Star Wars trilogy as an evil (and subjectively badass) lord of the Sith, and in episode III of the more recent prequel trilogy as a highly emotional and vulnerable man. Vader is quite an extreme example of emotions getting the better of a person; in episode III, he betrays the Jedi order in order to save his wife Padme, who he later chokes for helping his former master Obi-Wan. Despite the extent of Vader's impulsiveness, he can still be related to in a less-extreme way.
I see myself as similar to Darth Vader mainly in a much-less-extreme regard to sometimes acting impulsively. On the other hand, I am quite different from Vader in that emotions do not drive me to terribly evil acts... and I am not reliant on an armored life-support suit. I am also far less assertive than Vader, and can't quite see myself lording over anyone.
